Course Description

Surveying is more than just operating equipment and conducting data analysis – surveyors must also understand the laws and regulations of their work sites. Understanding these laws and regulations will help you make sure that you’re doing your job as a land surveyor correctly and safely wherever your land surveying work takes you. You’ll practice using your knowledge in case studies and scenarios that you might encounter in the real-world and walk away from the course with the foundational knowledge you need about the laws and regulations that apply to land surveying.

Is This Course For You?

This course is designed for anyone interested in joining the field of land surveying but hasn’t had specific formal education or training on it. The only requisite for this course is a high school diploma or equivalent, though it is recommended that you take the first two courses in the Land Survey Technician Mastery Certificate program, Surveying Fundamentals and Mathematics for Surveying, before taking this course.

What You’ll Learn

In this course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of property law and construction site regulations that you’ll need to know when working as a land survey technician. You’ll also review the importance of boundaries in the context of lots, sites, and roadways. You’ll also get practice applying these concepts to real-life scenarios that you might encounter in your work so you understand the practical uses of what you’re learning.

How You’ll Learn

This six week course is fully online and asynchronous, so you’ll be able to complete your course work throughout the week at whatever time fits your schedule. As you learn about the concepts of property law and construction site regulations, you’ll have quizzes and knowledge checks and complete practice exercises where you’ll apply what you’re learning to sample worksite scenarios. By the end of the course, you’ll complete a property law scenario-based project or a case study on a sample worksite to demonstrate what you’ve learned in a way you can show to your future employers.
