Course Description

Whether you’re working in the field or in the office, foundational math skills are essential for successful land survey technicians. In this course, you’ll review concepts from algebra, geometry, and trigonometry and learn how to apply ideas from these concepts to different real-life land survey situations that you may encounter in your work as a land surveyor.

Is This Course For You?

This course is designed for anyone interested in joining the field of land surveying but hasn’t had specific formal education or training on it. The only requisite for this course is a high school diploma or equivalent, so whether you’re just starting your career or are looking to change fields, this course will be a good fit for you. You will be using parts of trigonometry, geometry, and algebra in this course, so it’s recommended that you have basic familiarity with those mathematical concepts before taking this course.

What You’ll Learn

In this course, you’ll learn about the foundational math skills that are important to have as a land survey technician. You’ll review the concepts of geometry, trigonometry, and algebra that directly relate to the job duties of a land survey technician as well as how those concepts are used on the job. You’ll learn about and practice these core mathematical concepts and then apply them to sample surveying scenarios so you have practical experience with how these math skills are important to your future in the land surveying field.

How You’ll Learn

This twelve week course is fully online with synchronous sessions that include lectures, quizzes, and practice problems. Throughout the course, you’ll work towards adding material to your portfolio that shows you understand how to apply the mathematical concepts you’re covering in class to real world land surveying situations. By the end of the course, you’ll understand how to apply the knowledge you’ve gained to real-world examples and problem solve scenarios that you may see in the field.

Skills You Walk Away With

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the foundational mathematical concepts for land surveying including trigonometry, geometry, and algebra.
  • Execute proper and accurate mathematical methods to interpret and refine field data including the use of calculators and unit conversations.
  • Practice applying mathematical skills to surveying scenarios.
