Course Description
Patient engagement and activation is a key part of today’s healthcare system or provider organization. The challenge, however, is empowering patients to embrace and use technology based on individual needs, preferences, and readiness. Data is only as meaningful as the humans behind it, and that means having a deep understanding of how technologies play a role in population health and care received at doctors’ offices or hospitals. In this course, you’ll learn how to build better relationships with patients through health technology so you can best serve your patients.

This course is perfect for those in non-technical healthcare management working at the manager and director level with both clinical and non-clinical backgrounds. If you’ve worked in healthcare for two or more years in a non-technical manager role, this course will equip you with the tools and knowledge you need to understand the technology options you have available and use the correct ones to best assist your patients and workplace.
What You’ll Learn
Through this course, you will analyze common consumer health technologies that yield patient access while still posing barriers to some. Through examining clinical and operational uses of Patient Generated Health Data, practitioners can better educate patients on portals, personal health care records, and wearable devices and health apps as well as their integration into care models and healthcare IT systems. Additionally, inclusivity will be discussed, which will assist in providing telehealth opportunities and other remote care to those who may otherwise be excluded.
How You’ll Learn
This four week course requires you to spend 4-5 hours per week on course work and asynchronous instruction, totaling about 16-20 hours over the entirety of the course length. Throughout this course, you’ll use research and discussion, and evaluating patient barriers to adoption, you will leave this course with a high level of familiarity of consumer based technology offerings and an understanding of how best to use them to help your organization.
