Course Description

Being a leader extends beyond taking on a leadership role. It’s about developing interpersonal relationships with your coworkers and employees to ensure that you’re the most effective leader you can be in your organization. Regardless of what industry you work in or the size of your organization, it’s vital that you understand yourself as a leader to build an effective leadership technique that can be the most beneficial for yourself and your organization. During this course, you’ll develop your own personalized leadership style that uses your personality and working style to build a framework that will help you be an effective leader whether your organization is thriving or facing new challenges.

Is This Course For You?

This course will be beneficial for you if you’re currently employed in a leadership role and directing or managing the activities of others within your organization, though you may also find this course relevant if you’re interested in seeking a leadership role. Early and mid-career leaders are likely to get the most out of this course, especially if you’re currently facing a roadblock or challenge, or if you expect to face one soon since this course focuses on helping you grow as a leader. If you’re interested in learning about the theory and practice of leadership development, developing and reflecting on your own purpose and strategies as a leader, and participating in a cohort-based personal leadership development program that applies course learning to a personal transformational experience.

What You’ll Learn

This course is centered around leadership development, not leadership training. Leadership training is oftentimes designed for new leaders who have little or no experience and are learning specific skills that are more common across industries and organizations. Leadership development, on the other hand, focuses on personal and interpersonal relationships and requires that you learn more about yourself as a leader both individually and as a part of your larger organization so you can effectively meet new and complex challenges that are becoming more common in today’s workforce.

You will learn and apply a research-based development framework that will guide you to clarify your purpose and goals, accurately evaluate yourself, find reliable guidance, develop a sound strategy, and craft small experiments to help you lead more effectively. This is accomplished by using a small cohort format, which involves collaboration with other like-minded leaders by bringing your own best thinking and most pressing concerns to create support and insight. The experiential focus of this course means that you will walk away with real strategies and knowledge that you can implement on a variety of challenges that your organization may face down the line.

How You’ll Learn

This course is structured around working with your small cohort, which means that you will have required synchronous meetings at specified times throughout the course run time. Your cohort will be made up of 5-6 students, and each of your cohort members will take a turn facilitating a guided discussion. Each lesson will give you new tools and approaches to leadership that you can use to build a framework that works with your personal leadership style so that you can walk away from the course with actionable tools and knowledge of when it’s best to use those tools to best fit any situation your organization may face.

Skills You Walk Away With

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Apply a leadership strategy within a specific organizational challenge, and aligned to a leadership statement of purpose.
  • Evaluate a leadership strategy and formulate next steps within a specific organizational challenge, and aligned to a leadership statement of purpose.
  • Inform and respond to a growing network of colleagues in support of others’ and one’s own growth as a leader.
  • Use the framework you’ve learned to clarify your purpose and goals, accurately evaluate yourself, find reliable guidance, develop a sound strategy, and craft small experiments to help you lead more effectively.
