Is This Course For You?

This course is designed for students with little or no prior professional experience in IT or Cybersecurity. The course assumes basic knowledge of how to use a computer. All you need is the drive to start, change, or improve your career in IT. Upon completion of this course, you'll be better prepared for a career as an IT Support Specialist or similar types of entry-level IT roles.

What You’ll Learn

During this course, you’ll learn everything that you need to know in order to pass the CompTIA A+ Core 1 exam, an industry-recognized certification that is extremely helpful when you’re looking to establish your career in IT. The skills you need to pass the exam are the same that will make you a marketable and employable candidate for entry level IT positions or to show that you’re up to date on how to work with technology in any other field. This course can be taken as a standalone to be better prepared for entry-level jobs in IT, or you can use this course as a foundation for a job in cybersecurity by continuing onto the next course in the Cyber Defense Analyst Mastery Certificate.

This foundational course teaches you how to install, configure, and troubleshoot common desktop and mobile devices for a business environment including PC motherboards, system components, and peripheral devices. You’ll also learn how to support the most popular operating systems, configure and troubleshoot networks, and implement best practices for data security to keep your team working safely and efficiently.

How You’ll Learn

Information Technology Fundamentals is a fully online and asynchronous course, which means that you can study and learn at your own pace over the ten-week run-time of the course. Each week you’ll need to dedicate 3-5 hours to completing your coursework, but you can divide up that time however you want to throughout your week. There’s no need to rush home to sit through a lecture after work – all materials are available on demand, so you have the flexibility to complete your work whenever you have time in your busy schedule.

Skills You Walk Away With

By the end of this course, you will know how to:

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot PC motherboards, system components, and peripheral devices
  • Compare networking hardware types and configure local addressing and Internet connections
  • Summarize the uses for various network services, virtualization, and cloud computing
  • Provide support related to the use of mobile devices and print devices

While RIT Certified does not administer the CompTIA A+ Core 1 exam, you will be fully prepared to successfully take it upon the completion of this course.
