CE-ADMA-2001 - Integrated Circuits (IC) Technology
Course Description
In IC Technology, you’ll be introduced to the physics, chemistry, and materials of integrated circuit fabrication. Throughout the course, you’ll gain an understanding of what goes into the design of a basic process flow and the structural design of devices. You’ll also investigate how a CAD design (layout) is translated into silicon devices and circuits. Topics you’ll cover in this course include the basic process steps of crystal growth, oxidation, photolithography, diffusion, ion implantation, and metallization used to build integrated circuits. In addition, measurements from process investigations will be compared to computer simulations (TCAD).
During this course, you’ll have short answer questions or descriptive and conceptual long answer questions about the weekly topics for homework. There will also be small quizzes to check understanding throughout the course as well as a final comprehensive exam at the end of the course.
Course Outcomes
- Explain MOS Device Fabrication
Explain the physical and chemical processes involved in the fabrication of MOS devices. - Understand Design Layers
Describe the relationship between design layers and the fabricated device structure. - Analyze Crystallography
Analyze principles of semiconductor crystallography. - Understand Fabrication
Discuss the equipment and process used in semiconductor fabrication. - Define a Process Sequence
Define a process sequence for a MOS device.
The Learning Experience
This asynchronous course is designed for those who have associate degrees in STEM and anyone already working in the semiconductor industry not involved in the cleanroom and fabrication components of this field. Prior knowledge of semiconductors and microelectronics is beneficial but not required. Problem sets in this course draw on knowledge of algebra but do not require calculus. There are no required textbooks for this course, but you may find the following texts useful when enrolled:
- Introduction to Microelectronic Fabrication by Richard C. Jaeger, Addison-Wesley, 1993
- Microchip Manufacturing by Stanley Wolf, Lattice Press, 2004
Applies Towards the Following Certificates
- Semiconductor Career Accelerator : Core Courses
