Course Description

In this applied training program, you’ll gain hands-on experience using Material Flow Analysis (MFA) to track and optimize the movement of materials through products, processes, and systems. MFA applies mass balance principles to help identify inefficiencies and guide design improvements aligned with sustainability and circular economy goals.
You’ll explore how MFA intersects with life cycle assessment (LCA), cradle-to-cradle design, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a strong focus on U.S. industry contexts like automotive, electronics, construction, and packaging.
Through real or hypothetical case applications, you'll build critical skills to model material flows, interpret results, and recommend circular design strategies that support business and environmental impact. By course end, you’ll produce a full MFA project that showcases your ability to inform operational decisions and sustainability initiatives.
