Course Description
Generative AI is an extremely powerful tool that can be utilized effectively in a range of applications, but there are certain ethical implications you need to consider when implementing the use of AI. In this course, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the ethical issues that can come up with the use of generative AI as well as how to navigate them to make sure you’re using AI ethically for your organization.

This course is designed for anyone interested in learning more about how to address the ethical implications of generative AI in business settings. You don’t need prior experience with generative AI to take this course. This course is a good fit for you if you want to gain a deeper understanding of how generative AI can be used ethically in your organization. Business Ethics of Generative AI is also the second core course in the Applied Generative AI Mastery Certificate, and if you’re interested in pursuing the mastery certificate we suggest you take this course after completing the first core course, Introduction to Generative AI. This course can be taken at the same time as the third core course in the mastery certificate, Applied Generative AI.
What You’ll Learn
In this course, you’ll dive into the ethical considerations and societal impacts of generative AI. You’ll learn about the responsibilities associated with using AI technologies in business as well as develop strategies to mitigate potential risks and ethical dilemmas. What you’ll learn throughout the course will culminate in a final project that you can use to demonstrate your newfound skills and knowledge as part of your professional portfolio. For this project, you’ll develop a comprehensive ethical analysis for a hypothetical AI initiative within a company, addressing issues of bias, environment, truth, copyright, privacy & security, datafication, emotion recognition, human labor, and power.
How You’ll Learn
This six-week course is fully online and asynchronous, so you can complete each week’s lessons and coursework on your own time. During this hands-on course, you’ll engage in activities including an ethical impact assessment of a current AI project or case study, reflective journaling on ethical issues that will come up in the lessons, and analyzing and debating issues raised in current news articles. You’ll also work on your final project throughout the course as you gain the knowledge and skills you need to complete it.

Notes
No prior knowledge or experience with AI is required. Students should have a high-speed internet connection and be familiar with using web-based applications. All web-based applications can be run using a Mac or a PC with no software downloads required.Prerequisites
Students should have a working knowledge of Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowePpoint) or Google (Docs, Sheets, Slides) to complete assignments with the option to use any AI features within those applications.
It is recommended that students take this course concurrently or after the Introduction to Generative AI or have equivalent knowledge and experience.
