RITC-HLTH-718 - Evidence-Based Management in Health Care
Course Description
Health care systems are data-rich environments, but capturing the value in this data can present daunting challenges. In this course, students will draw on leading-edge technology and detailed sources of organizational and clinical data to drive decisions that lead to improved outcomes. Students will develop an inventory of commonly available health care datasets, describe the value and limitations of these datasets, and practice making decisions that improve processes and outcomes for patients. By developing an example implementation plan that connects an evidence-based decision to strategy, students will gain hands-on experience with the tools and techniques that enable evidence-based decisions in complex health care systems. This course assumes familiarity with introductory statistical concepts.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course students will be able to:
- Explain a decision that will lead to improved patient outcomes by drawing on analyses of complex simulated healthcare datasets.
- Describe and evaluate diverse health care data sources.
- Develop a plan for evaluating evidence-based decisions by identifying and monitoring key metrics over time.
