Course Description

Product creation is undergoing a revolution. New methods, tools, and techniques are transforming and growing manufacturing industries like semiconductor devices, pharmaceuticals, and aerospace. This course focuses on the application of smart tools and systems like generative AI, sensors and IoT, and data to design and manage innovation in optimizing layouts, workflow, and resource utilization. Students will learn to inform operations based on data and use AI to improve production planning and scheduling. Experts will lead analyses and applications across advanced manufacturing case studies that dive into the management and design aspects of facilities planning and operation.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to: 

  • Apply the principles of lean manufacturing to the design of factory layouts
  • Apply data-driven approaches to optimize production processes and reduce costs
  • Enhance existing production planning and scheduling methodologies by incorporating AI tools
  • Evaluate the implications of technological change for product development and workforce allocation
