Course Description
Media production is accelerating rapidly into massively hybrid virtual production workflows that marry the very best attributes of live action and reactive visual effects. With the integration of real time graphics rendering, camera and performance tracking, and full soundstage LED volumes, these skills are in high demand for production careers in the 21st century. Professional proficiency in on-set virtual production (OSVP) begins with core understanding of the creative and technical workflows from both a theoretical and operational perspective. In this 10-day virtual production in-person immersion created in partnership with Synapse VP, you will be exposed to game engine tools and techniques as well as workflow optimization, all with a focus on producing a full virtual production scene.

This course is designed for early-career professionals working in production and college students in their final year of film school who are interested in pursuing a career in production. If you’re interested in working in virtual art, volume control, or on-set creative departments, this course will help you gain vital skills you need to be qualified for these positions.
What You’ll Learn
Throughout this course, you will learn about both artistic and technical workflows and gain an understanding of a range of different tools and techniques. During your time focusing on artistic workflows, you’ll dive into 3D previsualization, virtual asset development, virtual scouting, and OSVP cinematography. On the side of technical workflows, you’ll have lessons emphasizing LED volume architecture, systems engineering, LED spatial and color characterization, on-set camera and optics systems, and motion tracking systems.
How You’ll Learn
This course is a 10-day intensive course taking place in person in Los Angeles. Over the course of those 10 days, you will spend 80 hours learning about the tools and techniques that are essential to virtual production practices in hands-on lessons. This course is being offered in partnership with Synapse VP, a virtual production company that offers a variety of services related to virtual production. Their team has years of experience in the film industry that have culminated in a robust, filmmaker-center approach to virtual production that produces high-quality, visually stunning results for a variety of video types, from commercials to live broadcasts to films.
