The Black Belt course is the most advanced offering on the Lean Six Sigma methodology. This course is not just theoretical – you’ll work on a hands-on project that allows you to learn the theory and ideas of Lean Six Sigma and immediately apply them to real-world situations. After completing this course and the related project, you will grow in your mastery of Lean Six Sigma tolls and approaches to drive positive change by increasing productivity, customer satisfaction and bottom-line results for the rest of your career.

Completing the Green Belt course and project is a prerequisite for taking the Black Belt course. While we recommend taking the Green Belt course offered by RIT Certified to ensure that you’re taking a course that’s as rigorous and in-depth as needed to set yourself up for success in the Black Belt course, we will review your certification before registration in this course.

Your instructor will tailor the course to your needs, so you’ll know exactly how to use the Lean Six Sigma methodology to help improve your organization.


What You’ll Learn


In this course you’ll deepen your understanding of the Lean Six Sigma methodology and tools and gain the leadership skills and change management process knowledge essential to driving a culture of performance excellence. You’ll master the tools you need to improve your organization as well as the skills and techniques required to implement lasting change to the processes and workflows in your workplace.

Throughout the course, you’ll follow the DMAIC process unique to Lean Six Sigma to find potential issues and come up with solution strategies that can be effectively implemented and sustained. More than that, you’ll also be learning more about leadership, change management, communication, and conflict resolution so that you can get the most out of your team and take advantage of everyone’s individual strengths and potential.

You will also be using Minitab to learn advanced statistical methods such as inferential statistics, process capability and statistical process control, and more. You’ll also learn different techniques for designing experiments and surveys so you’ll be able to collect and analyze relevant data for your projects.


How You’ll Learn


This course is offered as a structured online course that takes place over the course of 16 weeks to help facilitate project integration and applied learning. You should plan to spend 6-8 each week on course materials, homework, discussions, quizzes, and occasional project reviews as well as an additional 6-8 hours per week on your project, holding team meetings, and other preparations.

During this course, you’ll learn the methodology and immediately apply it to a real world project throughout the course. You won’t get bogged down in the theory of Lean Six Sigma because you will go right from learning about processes to applying them seamlessly. Your instructor will provide you with direct feedback on your project throughout the course, so you’ll be sure that an expert in Lean Six Sigma is helping you get the most out of the tools and ideas from the Black Belt course.

Section Notes

This 24-week course is separated into two sessions. The break in between the two sessions is protected time for students to work on their LSS project.

Session 1 classes virtually meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6-8 pm, starting on Tuesday, January 13 through Thursday, April 3, 2025.

Session 2 classes virtually meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6-8 pm, starting on Tuesday, May 6 through Thursday, June 26, 2025.
