Are you interested in graphic design, but not sure what a career in graphic design would look like? In this course, you’ll learn about the endless possibilities that the field of graphic design has to offer. From food labels to Instagram ads, graphic designers create many of the materials we encounter in our daily lives. You’ll walk away from this course with a portfolio you can showcase in the future as well as an understanding of the graphic design career paths available to you.

If you’re a rising high school sophomore, junior, or senior with an interest in graphic design, this course is a great way to explore the options available to you in this industry. You’ll learn about different types of graphic design and get hands-on experience with different design styles and techniques so you can discover what you’re most drawn to for a potential future in graphic design.

What You’ll Learn

In this course, you’ll learn about graphic design history, theory, conceptual explorations, and problem solving approaches and strategies and get the chance to use what you’re learning about in actual projects using industry standard software and practices. From typography to branding to imagery, you’ll learn about the main aspects of graphic design as well as the terms that current industry professionals use to describe them. You’ll leave the week with a comprehensive overview of graphic design skills, software, history, and current trends to set you up for a future working in or studying graphic design.

How You’ll Learn

In this five day intensive course, you’ll learn about graphic design topics such as design thinking, problem-solving, color theory and application, typography, hierarchy, using imagery, and layout formats and get the chance to create work using the concepts you’re learning about. You’ll have daily critiques and feedback from your instructor as well as your classmates in individual and group settings so you can improve your work and note what you can keep working on after the week is over. You’ll be working on several projects throughout the week that you can combine into a final portfolio that you’ll showcase on your final day of class to your classmates, instructors, and invited industry professionals.
