Course Description

Becoming a successful entrepreneur is about much more than having a great idea for a business. In this course, you’ll learn more about what goes into being an entrepreneur from ideation to launching your business and beyond. By the end of this course, you’ll have an overview of how you can become a successful entrepreneur as well as experience with pitching your own business idea.

If you’re a rising high school sophomore, junior, or senior that has always wanted to start your business, this course is a great way for you to learn what goes into being a successful entrepreneur. You’ll learn about all of the different considerations and concepts to keep in mind if you want to be an entrepreneur and dive into the world of new venture startups.

What You’ll Learn

Throughout this course, you’ll gain an overview of what goes into being an entrepreneur and founding a startup. From exploring what makes a successful startup to financial management techniques to how to scale a business and more, you’ll learn about all of the different parts of starting a business that you’ll need to keep in mind for future endeavors. You’ll also learn how to create a pitch deck, which is essential when trying to find investors for your startup, and work in teams to compete against your classmates in a pitch deck competition. By the end of the course, you’ll have insight into the world of entrepreneurs and new venture startups.

How You’ll Learn

During this five day intensive, you’ll not only learn about what goes into successfully starting a business, but also get a chance to develop your own business idea and pitch it in a judged competition. You’ll get to hear from small business owners about their experiences as entrepreneurs and have the opportunity to ask them questions about their business and how they got to where they are today. You’ll also get to tour RIT’s Simone Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Student Hall for Exploration and Development (SHED), the Venture Creations Business Incubator, and the Center for Urban Entrepreneurship and see the various ways that RIT’s facilities are utilized by students to set them up for success in the future.

  • Know what goes into starting and sustaining a startup.
  • Be able to define the most important components of an entrepreneurial venture.
  • See the programs and resources RIT provides for budding entrepreneurs.
