In this hands-on course, you’ll dive into the world of inclusive design and create your own unique tactile silicone fidget from brainstorming to prototyping. You’ll delve into the realm of 3D modeling and 3D printing and learn how you can use the skills you’ll acquire in this course long after it ends. Unlock the potential of innovation and understand the significance of design for accessibility in this dynamic and engaging workshop and leave with a silicone sensory pad of your own creation.

Is This Course For You?

If you’re a rising high school sophomore, junior, or senior interested in product design and what it means to design accessible products, this course is a great way to get hands-on experience. You’ll learn about the principles of design thinking and actually apply them when creating your own unique silicone fidget and get to see what goes into every step of the design process from conception to prototype.

What You’ll Learn

In this five day course, you’ll learn what goes into designing accessible products and walk away from the course with your own unique tactile silicone fidget that you’ll take from concept to creation. Starting with the concepts of design thinking and an introduction to the importance of accessibility, you’ll go on to get hands-on experience with the 3D modeling process and learn how to think like a designer. By the end of the week, you’ll have an understanding of the different steps in the process of designing and creating a product as well as your own silicone sensory pad to take home.

How You’ll Learn

This hands-on course is designed to give you experience with creating accessible designs and help you start thinking like a designer. You’ll not only learn about design thinking and the process of product creation, including creating clay models, 3D printing a mold, and doing a silicone casting of your final product.

To learn more about how accessibility can be incorporated into the design process, you’ll hear from a guest speaker from AlSigl. They’ll discuss the need for accessible designs as well as how communities' needs are an important influence on the design process.
