Course Description

Industrial and Systems Engineering is a field centered around optimizing systems and processes to make things more efficient. In this course, you'll use and develop your critical thinking, analytical, and problem solving skills while discovering how a future as an industrial engineer could help you change the world. By the end of the week you’ll have new skills and knowledge that you’ll be able to use in the future working or studying Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Is This Course For You?

If you’re a rising high school sophomore, junior, or senior interested in industrial and systems engineering, this course is a great way to learn more about the industry and how industrial engineers work to find the most optimized way of making systems run. You’ll work on developing your critical thinking and analytical skills and learn what a future studying or working in the field of industrial engineering could look like for you.

What You’ll Learn

This five day intensive will give you an overview of what industrial engineers do to optimize systems, solve problems, and create strategies for continuous improvement. You’ll learn how industrial engineers identify problems, analyze data, and design creative solutions as a team and get the opportunity to get hands-on practice using the new skills you’re learning about. Industrial engineers use concepts like problem solving frameworks, facilities planning, and product designing with assembly and sustainability in mind to create optimized systems, and you’ll get a look at how those concepts work together. By the end of the week, you’ll understand how to use elements of engineering, math, and business to work on solutions and improved efficiencies for real-world problems.

How You’ll Learn

This course is designed to give you experience with the industrial engineering concepts you’re learning about through interactive challenges and hands-on activities. This includes using linear programming to optimize a system as well as figuring out continuous improvement strategies to improve processes. You’ll also go on site visits so you can see what it really looks like to work in the field of industrial engineering.

Skills You Walk Away With

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Understand fundamental concepts of industrial and systems engineering.
  • Develop your essential problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Understand how innovation and optimization are at the center of industrial and systems engineering.
