Course Description

CAD (Computer-Aided Design) is an important tool used by land survey technicians to create survey maps for their clients. If you’re interested in working in the land surveying industry but would prefer to work in an office setting as opposed to in the field, the skills in this course will help you prepare for that career path. You’ll create a full map using CAD for a theoretical client that can be included in a portfolio of your work to display your skill when applying for roles in the field of land surveying.

Is This Course For You?

This course is designed for anyone interested in joining the field of land surveying but hasn’t had specific formal education or training in it. The only requirement for this course is a high school diploma or equivalent, though it is recommended that you take the first two courses in the Land Survey Technician Mastery Certificate program, Surveying Fundamentals and Mathematics for Surveying, before taking this course. This elective course is one of two options if you’re pursuing the Land Survey Technician Mastery Certificate, and it is better suited for you if you’re interested in office work as opposed to field work as a land surveyor.

What You’ll Learn

In this course, you’ll learn about the fundamentals of CAD for surveying with a primary focus on the work of an in-office technician. You’ll practice creating boundary surveys and providing the accompanying specs. By the end of this course, you’ll be able to create a full survey map, which you can use for your professional portfolio.

How You’ll Learn

This ten week course is fully online with synchronous sessions where you’ll cover the course materials as well as get hands-on experience using the skills and techniques you’ll be covering. Throughout the course you’ll learn what goes into creating a full survey map for a client and display your newfound knowledge by making a final map as a deliverable for a theoretical client using CAD.

Skills You Walk Away With

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand and apply CAD skills in relation to survey engineering.
  • Practice utilizing CAD to create drafts of maps and boundary surveys.
