Course Description

Disruptions and emergencies that impact your business or organization can be difficult to predict, which is why it’s important to be prepared with the proper skills and plans in place to deal with these issues when they arise. This course will give you the knowledge and skills you need during an emergency or disruption to keep your operations running as smoothly as possible to minimize the potential for further issues or loss. If you want your business to be resilient and continue thriving in the face of unpredictable circumstances, this course will give you the tools you need to make that possible.

Is This Course For You?

This course is designed for mid-career professionals interested in developing their disruption and emergency management skills. You can take this as a standalone course to implement your newfound knowledge as part of your current career path or continue onto the rest of the Organizational Risk, Continuity, and Resilience Mastery Certificate to transition to a career as a business continuity analyst.

What You’ll Learn

This course focuses on the processes that support emergency and disruption management. This includes the assessment of the nature and scope of disruptions, the potential direct and indirect impacts, and the implementation of actions and interventions to manage the disruption or emergency. Throughout this course, you’ll explore the concepts of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery as well as the policies and relationships among governance authorities who share responsibility in managing emergencies through incident command and operations.

This hands-on course will teach you how to create a plan to manage an emergency or disruption that includes disruption assessment, impact assessment, and intervention. While going through the course, you’ll create a plan for your own business, company, or organization that you can implement once it is complete. You’ll be learning about concepts such as disruption and disaster resilience while also learning how you can use that knowledge to create a more resilient structure for your organization.

How You’ll Learn

During this six week course, you’ll use case studies and team projects to get hands-on experience with the development of organizational resilience through contributing physical, operational and emergency management factors. The course will culminate in you producing a “Threat and Hazard” assessment for your current organization, workplace, or other entity. You’ll practice the elements required to complete that assessment by applying the principles you’ll be learning about to scenarios from case studies. This course is fully online and asynchronous, so you can complete your coursework on your schedule.
