The only requisite for this program is a high school diploma or equivalent, so whether you’re just starting your career or are looking to change fields, this program will be a good fit for you. After completing your mastery certificate, you will be qualified to start working in various roles in the land surveying industry, such as a Survey Technician, Survey Field Technician, Survey Computer-Aided Design (CAD) technician, Field Technician, and Survey Rodman or Instrument Person.

What You’ll Learn

Each course in the Land Survey Technician Mastery Certificate focuses on different skills and information that you will need to know to start an entry-level position as a land survey technician. In this program, you’ll learn the essential skills and practical knowledge employers are looking for, including how to effectively use surveying equipment, how to properly collect and analyze field data, how to create accurate maps for clients using CAD, and more. This mastery certificate will also strengthen your fundamental math skills to ensure that you’re ready for the computations and analysis you’ll need to do while surveying.

The topics covered in this mastery certificate are also aligned with the topics covered in the Certified Survey Technician (CST) Level I and Level II exams, hosted by the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS). Although the content covered in these courses will introduce you to the subject areas on the exams, the courses in this program are not exam prep courses and the exams will not be administered by RIT Certified.

How You’ll Learn

This mastery certificate includes four core courses, an elective course with two options to choose from, and an optional practicum experience. The modality and length of each course varies, with run times ranging from 6 to 12 weeks and both in-person and online courses. By the end of the course sequence, you will have created a collection of work samples that demonstrate industry-required skills, including examples of computations, data analysis, and mapping.
